In vitro antioxidant and nephroprotective properties of Polyalthia longifolia: A traditional medicinal plant

Polyalthia longifolia (Sonn.) Thwaites is a traditional medicinal plant with diverse properties including kidney protection. The present investigation was aimed to assess the phytochemical content, antioxidant activity and evaluate nephroprotective of (PL) 70% ethanolic leaf extract against cisplatin gentamicin-induced toxicity on HEK293 cell line. Phytochemical analysis confirmed presence flavonoids, reducing sugars, tannins, coumarin, saponins, alkaloids, glycosides, as well abundant total phenolic flavonoid content in PL extract. exhibited significant free radical scavenging (p<0.001) ABTS (IC50 224 μg/mL), DPPH 150.1 μg/mL) H2O2 271.1 assays. In vitro MTT assay validated remarkable cytoprotective at three concentrations (125 μg/mL, 250 500 gentamicin treated line dose dependent manner viability 312.6 µg/mL) 72% 307.3 µg/mL), respectively, μg/mL. cytotoxicity also no adverse effect considered nontoxic when compared normal control group. study revealed that has induced nephrotoxicity model which might be due phytochemicals.
